The Mahatma Gandhi Foundation invites you to a simple but meaningful commemoration of the first centennial of the International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8, at 6 pm, at the beach, behind the municipal cemetery. The annual event started in Copenhague, Denmark, in 1911 and today it has become a truly universal celebration.
International Women’s Day celebrates the pursuit of equal social, cultural, economic, sexual and reproductive rights for a segment of the human race that represents “half the sky.” Seventy percent of the poor around the world are women and the denial of fundamental rights for women is generally accepted as the principal cause of poverty around the world.
We invite girls and women from all nationalities, ethnicities and languages, to come with their friends, partners and husbands to remember the most important women in their lives by means of a simple but meaningful flower offering, and to express their dreams and aspirations for girls and women in Las Terrenas helping construct an “oral mosaic.”
